As ELA teachers, we cover a wealth of topics: reading, writing, grammar, discussion strategies, and test prep is the start of the list! While this is a lot to cover in what often feels like not enough time, we also have the privilege and opportunity to expose our students to diverse texts with authors that share and have different perspectives from our own. We are able to explore different ideas through our reading that continues to build student voice through writing and the different ways we choose to share our stories. The incredible relationships built through reading, writing, and discussion allow us to learn how they (and we) see the world, and proves to be a unique gift and opportunity that ELA teachers possess. Through our work together, we'll discuss and learn about how to capitalize on our students' stories, experiences and perspectives while also sharing different perspectives to challenge their thinking and analysis.
